Job Description

Excellent opportunity for a Senior Contracts Specialist. This is a permanent vacancy based in Aberdeen.
The Senior Contracts Specialist will provide contractual and commercial support to Project teams, internal departments and the Commercial Department generally to ensure that the client is mitigating its contractual and commercial risk at all times and optimising its project and internal equipment supplier delivery.

The Senior Contracts Specialist will be responsible for :

  • Providing support and guidance to Project Managers, Departmental Managers and relevant
  • Commercial team members on contractual and commercial issues where requested
  • Highlighting any major commercial or contractual risks, opportunities or issues to the Lead Contract Specialist and Project Managers, Departmental Managers and work with them to ensure optimum solution

Assisting with internal cost reporting and forecasting

Main Contract:

  • Providing a contractual and commercial summary to the Project Manager of the assigned project
  • Assisting the Project Manager with updating the Opportunity and Risk Register (ORR)
  • Facilitating project bonds, guarantees and insurances required by the main contract
  • Attending weekly project team meetings
  • Liaising with Project Manager and Project Controller to complete the monthly Project Report for Executive review
  • Assisting the Project Manager and Project Controller with the project cost report and forecast
  • Compile sales invoices in accordance with the Main Contract and in conjunction with the Project Controller
  • Responsible for keeping the vessel summary document updated using Daily Project Report (DPR)
  • Responsible for managing contractual change with the assistance of the project team where required, negotiation and execution of all Variation Orders/Amendments with the client and maintaining the project

  • Compile and negotiate contractual claims with assistance from the Lead Contract Specialist should they arise
  • Settle final account with the client and ensure completing certificates are fully executed
  • Arrange Vessel Charters in conjunction with the client

Sub Contract:
Arrange Project & Operations department subcontracts and manage as required which shall include but is not limited to:

  • Identify goods and services to be procured for a project in conjunction with the relevant
    internal stakeholders
  • Interface with other departments to develop scopes of work for inclusion in Invitation
    to Tender (ITT) documents
  • Responsible for commercial and contractual aspects of tendering, evaluating,
    negotiating, awarding and managing the subcontracts and major purchase orders
    ensuring the necessary main contract flow downs are incorporated
  • Checking of subcontractor invoices. Negotiate any disputes on the invoices and identify
    whether or not they are rechargeable to the Client
  • Facilitate bonds, guarantees and insurances required from subcontractors where
    applicable
  • Responsibility for negotiating Variation Requests received from Subcontractors,
    execution of all Subcontractor Variation Orders and maintaining the subcontract
    variation register.
  • Compile and negotiate contractual claims with assistance from the Lead Contract
    Specialist should they arise
  • Settle final account with Subcontractors and ensure completion certificates are fully
    executed where applicable
  • Support projects by arranging and managing Vessel Charters from a contractual and
    commercial perspective as required

In order to be considered for this Senior Contracts Specialist opportunity you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Educated to degree level, preferably with a Law, Business or Quantity Surveying qualification or relevant experience
  • Considerable work experience as a Contracts Engineer within the Oil & Gas, Construction & Civil Engineering or Renewables industries
  • Considerable contractual knowledge and analytical skills
  • Relevant experience of qualification of contract and commercial documentation, negotiating, cost forecasting and reporting
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work using own initiative and to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to effectively manage own workload, and work within given timescales (both internal and external), ensuring project requirements are met
