Principal Chemist – Asset Integrity - Aberdeen

We are working with our client based in Aberdeen to source a Principal Chemist – Asset Integrity. This is a permanent role.

The candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in corrosion inhibitor laboratory testing for the oil and gas industry. The incumbent is required to have experience in planning or assisting on offshore corrosion inhibitor field trials and corrosion surveys at client sites and be willing to travel EH wide to support these activities.

The role is a majority lab based role with requirements for ad hoc field support as and when required, which is estimated at maximum 15% of the overall time.

JOB HOLDER ROLES

  • The jobholder will design, supervise and carry out laboratory work to select or optimize production chemicals (majority being corrosion inhibitors) and provide customers with a quality technical response.  Knowledge and experience of performing commonly used oilfield corrosion inhibitor testing methods is required, including autoclave (HPHT) testing.
  • Ensure that all existing test equipment is properly used and maintained. Maintain up-to-date maintenance contract files for capital equipment.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of department specific techniques. Identify new state-of-the-art test techniques.  Evaluate new test apparatus or modify existing equipment to improve testing or develop new types of testing.
  • Travel to offshore or onshore customer sites to provide technical support in field trials and surveys.
  • Providing direction to the chemists assigned to work on department specific projects may be required.
  • Training other members of the team in areas of product development testing - as and when appropriate.
  • Supply appropriate support to Marketing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and QC/QA.
  • Present all reports in a professional manner and be competent on the computer and software systems available.
  • Be responsible for conforming to the test procedures and maintaining the necessary paperwork/ procedures for ISO compliance.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • M.S. or BSc in Chemistry or related technical field with 5+ year’s industry experience.
  • Previous experience of working in a laboratory in a similar role
  • Proven innovator and problem solver.
  • Excellent technical and industry knowledge.
  • Good computer skills, must have experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Good oral and written communication skills, speak and write English.
