Principal Chemist - Aberdeen

We are working with our client based in Aberdeen to source a Principal Chemist. This is a permanent role

In this role, they will deliver internal and external customer value through continuous improvement in the following areas:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Management: design and supervision.
  • Evaluations and Syntheses of new materials.
  • Product Development and Formulation.
  • Product Performance Screening; development of new evaluation techniques.
  • Laboratory testing of scale Inhibitors.
  • Provide continuous improvements to internal and external customers through laboratory technical problem solving, troubleshooting and product application / development support. Conduct all duties and activities professionally to ISO 9001 and 14001 standards.

JOB HOLDER RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Design, supervise and carry out laboratory work and provide customers with a quality technical response. 
  • Continuously evaluate new raw materials and commercially available products; design and / or synthesize new materials. 
  • Identify raw materials to reduce the environmental impact of the existing product lines.
  • Develop relationships with preferred suppliers and continuously look for new products and suppliers.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of department specific techniques.
  • Identify new state-of-the-art test techniques. 
  • Evaluate new test apparatus or modify existing equipment to improve analyses or develop new types of analyses.
  • Providing direction to the chemists assigned to work on department specific projects may be required.
  • Train other members of the team in areas of product development testing - as and when appropriate.
  • Supply appropriate support to Marketing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and QC/QA.
  • Present all reports in a professional manner and be competent on the computer and software systems available.
  • Be responsible for conforming to the 'Design' procedures and maintaining the necessary paperwork / procedures for ISO compliance.
  • Implement and follow Company safety policy and procedures, in particular Goal Zero

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BSc Hons and 6+ years or MSc and 3-5 years or PhD and 1-3 years’ laboratory experience
  • Previous experience of molecular synthesis is required.
  • Previous experience of managing research projects – both singly and as part of a team.
